Because ejaculation during sleep is often associated with puberty, adults think that it is a health problem when they experience it. This is quite wrong because there are quite natural reasons why adult men and women experience ejaculation during sleep.

Why do you ejaculate in sleep?

Sleep ejaculation usually occurs during REM sleep. In REM sleep, the brain is working very actively, just like during the day, while your body is paralyzed. In other words, your brain is awake while your body is asleep. There is no drop in brain stimulation and the body receives more oxygen. Due to more blood flow to the genitals, men experience erections and women experience clitoris stimulation. This intense stimulation facilitates orgasm.

This condition is also called a wet dream and is generally thought to be specific to adolescents and men, but it is quite normal to be seen in adults or women. One study estimated that 70% of women have had an orgasm even once in their sleep.

It is normal to experience sleep ejaculation a few times each month. There are some factors that determine the frequency of this situation. Some of these factors can be psychological stress, triggering of the body due to long periods of no intercourse, sexual thoughts or even eating heavy meals before sleep. The scientific world has not yet found clear triggers for this condition. Because what triggers your orgasm can sometimes be the touch of the overstimulated genitals on the duvet or a dream that stimulates you even though it has no sexual content.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no harm or even benefit in having an orgasm during sleep. If your body can have an orgasm while you are asleep, you can have an orgasm while you are awake. This shows that your body physically has this ability. However, it should be noted that the fluids you encounter in the morning are not always a sign of orgasm. For men, nocturnal emission always results in ejaculation, while in women it can be different. Vaginal discharge in women indicates that sexual arousal has taken place, but this does not necessarily lead to orgasm.

Can wet dreams be prevented?

Nocturnal emission is completely involuntary. Therefore, there is no way to avoid it. If waking up with ejaculation bothers you or if you are worried about any health problems, consult a doctor for advice.

Remember that nocturnal emission resulting in ejaculation or wet dreams is a combination of reactions based on relaxing your body. They are not harmful to you and will never affect your sex life in a bad way.
