In both normal and caesarean births, babies are first dried. Stimuli are given to lighten the colour. The baby is warmed and dressed. Newborn babies should not be washed immediately because the creamy structure (vernix) in their bodies protects the baby from infections. It is best to put newborn babies born without any health problems directly to the mother's breast. However, babies with health problems are taken into care in neonatal wards.

After birth, the baby's umbilical cord is cut and tied in accordance with hygiene conditions and cleaned daily. Postnatal eye care is given to babies born with normal birth. The milk of mothers who have a baby with normal birth comes faster. This process may be slightly delayed in caesarean section. The amount of milk produced by the mother increases as the baby sucks the mother. Especially in the first days, the milk coming from the mother and called colostrum is very useful for babies. In cases where breast milk is insufficient and the baby's blood sugar is low formula support can be given.

Jaundice appears on the 2nd - 3rd day of the newborn baby. This condition, which is physiological in many babies, is due to blood incompatibility in some babies. Therefore, the baby's blood group and biluribin values are checked. After discharge from the hospital, jaundice is followed up by calling for controls. It is normal for a newborn baby to lose 10% of its weight in the first week. In case of more, breastfeeding errors and breast milk insufficiency are evaluated.

Babies are given vitamin K and hepatitis B vaccine at birth. Heel prick blood is taken to screen for some congenital diseases. Hearing test, which has become a routine practice in recent years, is also performed before the baby is discharged.
